Engelberg: the largest - and as the locals like to boast – probably also the most beautiful ski area in central Switzerland. Spread over an altitude of 2000 meters, there is room for snowboarding, skiing and sledding, a varied winter program to make your holiday exciting.
It will take us 1h43min to reach Engelberg from Zürich
Boasting 82 kilometres of runs, the Engelberg-TITLIS ski area offers plenty of variety.
All this in a scenic mountain setting that you will not want to miss.
The family-run hotel, together with the Tuifelsstei restaurant and the “Alpensauna” wellness area, offers the perfect conditions for an unforgettable holiday in the nature and outdoor paradise of Engelberg. Benefit from the unbeatable central location to all important infrastructures, such as the stop of the free village bus.
Your fellow PhD students have organised a bed for each of you in a shared room and single rooms for each professor. You will be able to select your fellow room mate through a separate link provided after the registration deadline. Once we arrive, you will receive a day pass for the skiing area Titlis. Furthermore, an apéro and the dinner will also be provided for the evening as well as breakfast in the morning.
If you are planning to come by car, note that parking cost will be at your own expense.
Any rental equipment, as well as the train tickets (there and back) are not covered by us. The ticket to Engelberg will be available at a discounted group price organized by your Skitreat committee, however tickets back to Zürich need to be booked individually. Additionally, If you are planning to ski on the 26th of January, note that the ski pass for the next day will be at your own expense.

7 : 30 AM - 10 : 30 AM
Included and served at the Hotel.
11 : 00 AM
After this, the official part is over. But since you are already in Engelberg, why not stay another day?
A Ski-Jacket and Ski-Trousers are a must have! You do not want to be in the snow with wet pants. So make sure to bring waterproof clothes!
Hat, scarf, gloves and thick socks: Since you will be on the slopes the entire day, make sure to protect your hands and head from the cold. Again, you do not want wet clothing so make sure the gloves are waterproof. Keep in mind that you will wear heavy ski-boots which will put your feet on an endurance test.
Thermal underwear are a nice thing to have when it gets really cold on the slopes.
Ski-Goggles and Sunglasses! If the sun shines bright, sunglasses are a must have! Without them you will not be able to see the slopes anymore. Snow blindness is real, so take it seriously!
Sunblock: The sun is an all powerful hydrogen/helium gas giant. It will burn the shit out of you and it happens very fast; melanoma. Protect your face from sunburns!
Helmet: If you want to stay safe on the slopes wear a helmet! Skiing is fast and accidents can happen.
To be able to organise the event we kindly ask you to sign up no later than 1st December 2023.
